Percy So is a bookbinder and paper artist, living and working in Hong Kong. Her interest in papercuttings and book arts originated from a research project when she was studying in England. In college she studied paper-making & bookbinding with Jeff Rathermel and printmaking with Fred Hagstrom, at Carleton College.
She began her fine binding studies in 2010 with Monique Lallier and studied with Hélène Jolis and Don Glaister at the American Academy of Bookbinding and has studied with Coleen Curry and Flora Ginn. Percy worked at the Preservation and Conservation Division of The University of Hong Kong under the tutelage of Jody Beenk between 2015 and 2018. Percy currently teaches and works at her studio in Causeway Bay.
In 2011, she exhibited her works in “Paper Tales”, an exhibition featuring delicate paper works organised by Youth Arts Foundation and Swire Island East. In 2016, Percy collaborated with other local artist on a book arts project for Gallery Mur Nomade. This collaborative project was purchased by Tai Kwun and exhibited at Art Basel 2017. Percy's artist book “The Staircase” was awarded an honourable mention at Art of the Book 2018 competition and exhibition in Canada.
Percy's works have been exhibited in Hong Kong, Macao, USA, Canada and The Netherlands. She has taught workshops in Hong Kong and Macao at different institutions, namely Hong Kong University, PolyU HKCC, Lingnan University and Tai Kwun. Her works have been featured in many publications including but not limited to Apple Daily, Cosmopolitan, East Touch and Timeout HK.
